eureka

well here I am again , and guess what ?? no not a new planet in our solar system ,not another small bacteria discovered in the Russian government ,and no definitely no wins on the pools for me !

BUUT we have a working dyno software !

oh YES!

thanks to andy's brilliance , I have a new adc board created from a picture ,and progged by his high electronicness,  and stuff me it works .

mmm colour graphs n stuff . I have even managed to get it to work on a pc that has lots of power ,and print on a 3 in 1 printer a g85 hp thingy .

this means that we are now fully functioning , and as a test we put andy's saab on there and ,although it suffered some ecu induced  limpness (connected with a disagreement between the front and rear speed sensors) , it made exactly the same bhp to the 10th of a bhp , on each run , so repeatability is excellent.

joy joy JOY.

now to play with my data logging innovate stuff and get tuning .

long time no bloggage !

well here we are again ,ages since i put pen to paper ,so heres a little update ..

the last time i wrote was i think ,about summer last year ,since then i have fixed the cave up a little more,
double glazed the windows (elastoplast)
rigged up remote control of the exhaust extraction fans ,cooling fans ,and compressor .
painted the floor and made steel plates to fill in around the dyno .
painted the console black.
done extensive work with andy's help on the analog circuit boards of the dyno ,he kindly made me some chips (with that) to replace the dead 604 ones ,but upon testing it still went wonky ,we assume some of the other ones on there were still dead ,,so i banged in the spare boards and it worked ok ,i estimate i took those original boards in and out about 6.458k times in the end, ooooh my back !!

now i could finally test the dyno ,which was done with my astra ,

http://s32.photobucket.com/albums/d44/ivanhoew/?action=view¤t=059.mp4

it worked ok ,but made a nasty rattling noise at 95 mph ,so i decided to take it all apart and replace the bearings ! this was a bit of a job to do n my own ,and i went away for a interesting christmas ,then ,on return ,got it apart ,then had great fun trying to get the correct bearings ,which i did in the end .
so put them in ,after of course ,digressing into the world of roller restoration ,so out of all this came two shiny silver rollers ,and two mega stonko grippy ceramic gritted rollers !! .

software wise ,a fully understandable hiatus ensued ,so in the meantime i did a bit more research in this area .. i found dynertia, a company in aus , but they cant seem to do a coast down addition of the neg voltage for losses on each run ,also can't afford it lol ,apart from that ,a tat dyno system was on ebay ,but went to 1100 quid ,second hand ouch !
then sophie popped up again ,and was into working on it some more ,blimey,i'm about as much use on this as a quark at a meson convention ,but i am a great cheerleader !rah rah ,etc .

so ,the new rollers ,apart from trying to emasculate me ,went in this week ,i will leave them a week for the epoxy grit things to harden ,then get my car on there again ,and see whats what . i may even get to calibrate it .

thanks for reading .

update ,little bit of progress

on the batcave /milking shed front .
i now have a fully wired cave/shed.. lights on proper switches! sockets everywhere ! remote switches on ex extraction cooling fan and compressor !! .most exciting , now i just have to connect it all to the house, meter box and stand back and flick the switch..hopefully not to be met with a kaboom.
software wise ..
well ,sophie has achieved a lot ,with graph pages and menu's and everyfink ,very encouraging .apparently the csv 'coma seperated v' thing in c hash language actually realy means use a ; not a , so after that little trap was understood it went swimmingly .(i have probably got this totally wrong ,and im sure ill be set straight lol)

im hoping to do some actual dyno running next week ,and get used to it all again .
better start saving for an mbed doofah .:-)

HIGH EXCITEMENT ENSUES (plus a little trepedation .)

new pics on the fb page.

MBED Board Genesis

Started putting together schematics for mbed board today, emailed 'the team' to check going in the right direction before going off at too much of a tangent.

quick test

to see if the email thing works .go about yuor business as usual.

april 15th update

presently , we have the sophmiester plotting and byting away at her hot software package ,somewhere on planet earth ,maybe england .

,and way down in the south of england ,we have andy ,getting mbedy wiv it and creating a hardware assembly for the connections of probes and various voltages .

i did an experiment ,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6h1keH-u22Q

and found that the rr makes a 10 v signal at maximum power ,and the same 10v max for the speed signal . i know i can vary these maximums ,and at present i imagine getting a 80 tooth wheel made for the speed instead of the 100 tooth wheel , this will bring max speed up to 155mph from 120 mph .and the power i can choose a level in calibrating the machine , so will choose 480 bhp ,this plus a normal sort of losses figure at 150 mph would give approximately 480 + 40 so 520 bhp max .hmmmm.. yummy.

i also found out thanks to andy's huge cerebellliumniummnum..um, that the signal conditioning board takes that 10v max and brings it down to 1.7v approx . so the ad board in my old pc could digest it without having a fit of the bots .

also it does look like ,when doing the run down and measuring the losses , that 10v max goes negative ,and that negative voltage gets added to the max bhp to make the power be at the crankshaft , not at the wheels .

i had a chat with sophie about the formulas for correcting power figures to an industry standard ,and she replied in the positive . :)

so chassis dyno testing facility wise ,i think i may be on the home straight, i got the pipes laid in for the air feed to the dyno to lift cars in and out ,and lock the rollers .

also the pipe for draining the dyno pit if it get flooded .

i have the whole air line system in as well ,and tested it and it does not leak ,oh yes! .or ,um ..no , in this case .trying to force feed a garage roof 20 feet of steel gas pipe for the air feed on my own was fun ..pleased im not a vet !!or a nurse !!!

i tested the compressor silencing box , but i found it was still a bit too obtrusive , i tried both compressors in there ,and the blue one from aldi was definately better . so a bit of block laying and mortar is on at some point to silence it a little more effectively .

also got the steel tread plates made for the hole down the side of the machine ,all cut to size for a tenner !! noice .

next jobs ,are ,put in power feed from house to batcave ..paint the machine , paint the floor ,and buy some 16 inch diameter flexible pipe for the air inlet ducting to the front of the car ....

oh HOLD ON ..i just realized ,i also have made the 4 inch thick soundproofed air outlet duct ,4 ft by 5ft tapered design ,and a hinged flap in the outer wall for the air to get out .and also sprayed expanding foam around all the frames and trimmed it back ,,, oh blimey ,also made a wooden frame on the floor for the doors to seal up against .wooof .... i go waffling along thinking i have'nt got much done ,and then stuff me with bitter lemon slices and call me madeleine !!! all this stuff gets done somehow .MARVELOUS.

'avin it large
