MBED Board Genesis

Started putting together schematics for mbed board today, emailed 'the team' to check going in the right direction before going off at too much of a tangent.

april 15th update

presently , we have the sophmiester plotting and byting away at her hot software package ,somewhere on planet earth ,maybe england .

,and way down in the south of england ,we have andy ,getting mbedy wiv it and creating a hardware assembly for the connections of probes and various voltages .

i did an experiment ,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6h1keH-u22Q

and found that the rr makes a 10 v signal at maximum power ,and the same 10v max for the speed signal . i know i can vary these maximums ,and at present i imagine getting a 80 tooth wheel made for the speed instead of the 100 tooth wheel , this will bring max speed up to 155mph from 120 mph .and the power i can choose a level in calibrating the machine , so will choose 480 bhp ,this plus a normal sort of losses figure at 150 mph would give approximately 480 + 40 so 520 bhp max .hmmmm.. yummy.

i also found out thanks to andy's huge cerebellliumniummnum..um, that the signal conditioning board takes that 10v max and brings it down to 1.7v approx . so the ad board in my old pc could digest it without having a fit of the bots .

also it does look like ,when doing the run down and measuring the losses , that 10v max goes negative ,and that negative voltage gets added to the max bhp to make the power be at the crankshaft , not at the wheels .

i had a chat with sophie about the formulas for correcting power figures to an industry standard ,and she replied in the positive . :)

so chassis dyno testing facility wise ,i think i may be on the home straight, i got the pipes laid in for the air feed to the dyno to lift cars in and out ,and lock the rollers .

also the pipe for draining the dyno pit if it get flooded .

i have the whole air line system in as well ,and tested it and it does not leak ,oh yes! .or ,um ..no , in this case .trying to force feed a garage roof 20 feet of steel gas pipe for the air feed on my own was fun ..pleased im not a vet !!or a nurse !!!

i tested the compressor silencing box , but i found it was still a bit too obtrusive , i tried both compressors in there ,and the blue one from aldi was definately better . so a bit of block laying and mortar is on at some point to silence it a little more effectively .

also got the steel tread plates made for the hole down the side of the machine ,all cut to size for a tenner !! noice .

next jobs ,are ,put in power feed from house to batcave ..paint the machine , paint the floor ,and buy some 16 inch diameter flexible pipe for the air inlet ducting to the front of the car ....

oh HOLD ON ..i just realized ,i also have made the 4 inch thick soundproofed air outlet duct ,4 ft by 5ft tapered design ,and a hinged flap in the outer wall for the air to get out .and also sprayed expanding foam around all the frames and trimmed it back ,,, oh blimey ,also made a wooden frame on the floor for the doors to seal up against .wooof .... i go waffling along thinking i have'nt got much done ,and then stuff me with bitter lemon slices and call me madeleine !!! all this stuff gets done somehow .MARVELOUS.

'avin it large

update , big things afoot .

hello fellow bhp obsessives ,

well after a fit of comunication with the think tank of sophie and andy ,me playing the part of the country yokel to thier enstienosityism ,a plan seems to be forming .

sophie has gone totally programtastic and is all up in the hood with c++ which gets a a++ from me !!

andy has had the collosall brain wave of using the mbed development board thingy ,which , it appears ,has a ad part with 8 channels ,and cheapest iv found so far is i think 38 quid from fernall.the great thing about this is its a piece of kit s and a are familiar with after using it on the trionic .

andy had had a look at the signal conditioning board on my pc ,and its a buffer attenuator ,,,,er,,,, so i guess dampens down spikes ,and changes the volts a bit .(incompetant r icon ).

i have been a bit ill these last few days , but managed to get a bit of stuff done in the batcave yesterday ,built a 3/4 inch panel for the rhs fixed door, and insulated and fixed it up ,so that side is sealed and quiet .used about 900 pieces of ply to do it ,but got rid of old wood and it looks ok .specially when i paint it all.

even more encouraging , sophie sent me a link to the tat software ,asking if that was desirable , ooof !a big old affermative good buddy ,was my response ;) although thats probably ages in the future if its possible at all . not going to assess my livefowl previous to their inception :)

its all jolly exciting !!!!
